A (Silicon Rubber) composite type stay insulator comprises a central mandrel made of insulating foam and having its ends glued at to two metal end pieces . The glue may be optionally conductive or semiconductive. A skein winding of insulating resin-impregnated fibers is made around the end piece and mandrel assembly to transmit traction forces from a shoulder on one of the end pieces to a corresponding shoulder on the other.
The winding is then covered with a resilient insulating covering which is optionally fitted with fins. Insulators of this type have to withstand high traction forces, eg. under the effect of mechanical loading, lying in the range 20 to 200 tons.On the other side ,composite insulator ,characterized by small size,light weight .high mechannical strength,no zero value detection,easy installation and less maintenance,have become a new generation insulator for high-voltage transmission line.
